Measuring Instructions

You will need a soft measuring tape. You can get one at any fabric store, grocery store, and even Walgreens! They are usually around $2. You will also need a piece of string or yarn to tie around your natural waistline. A number of measurements are taking by using the waist as a guide (you will see more about that below). It also helps to have a friend to measure you. It speeds up the whole process when you have someone handy that can help double-check that the measurements are being taken correctly.

Measurements should be taken with underwear and bra on to allow for room underneath the costume. Also, give us the measurement of your inseam and side seam with and without shoes if you're planning on wearing tall-heeled shoes and have pants or a skirt that need to be fitted accordingly.

Please take all measurements according to the instructions below. Many thanks for Pricilla for being our model for this section. Please stand straight and symetrical when taking your measurements, unlike Pricilla who is stuck in one position.

Upper Body
natural waist circumference
This is the measurement around the smallest part of your waist. You will notice it's probably higher than where you typically wear your pants. Tie a piece of yarn around this after taking your measurement to help with taking others. Measurement should be parallel to the floor.
bust/chest circumference
Measure around the largest part of your bust or chest. Should be going over bust points for woman. Measurement should be parallel to the floor.
under bust
Women only - The measurement around chest, directly under the bust. It's used to calculate the bust cup. Measurement should be parallel to the floor.
neck circumference
Measure around the middle of the neck, over the Adam's Apple. Measurement should be parallel to the floor.
front shoulder width
From shoulder point to shoulder point across your chest.
back shoulder width
From shoulder point to shoulder point across your back. The back shoulder width is typically around 1.2 in larger than your front shoulder width.
center front length
From the base of the neck at the wishbone to the natural waist. This measurement will typically be around 1.5in shorter than center back length
center back length
From the protruding vertibrae bone at the base of your neck to the natural waist line.
front shoulder slope
Women only - From the shoulder point, across the bust to the center of the natural waistline. This measurement is typically a bit longer than the back shoulder slope.
back shoulder slope
From the shoulder point, across the back to the center of the natural waistline.
shoulder length
Women only -From the base of the neck to the shoulder point.
shoulder to bust point
Women only - From the shoulder at the neck intersection, down to the apex of the bust.

From the shoulder point, down a slightly bent elbow to the wrist bone.
bicep circumference
Around the largest part of your upper arm, flexed.
forearm circumference
Around the largest part of your forearm.
wrist circumference
Around the wrist, over the wrist bone.

Lower Body
crotch depth
Sit on a flat surface like a chair and take the measurement from your natural waistline to the floor along your side.
thigh circumference
Around the largest part of your thigh, just below the crotch. measurement should be parallel to the floor.
calf circumference
Around the largest part of your calf, flexed. Measurement should be parallel to the floor.
hip depth
From the natural waist down to the largest part of the hips. Measurement should be parallel to the floor.
knee depth
From the natural waist down to the crease of the knee. Take along the side of back of the body. Make sure you stand up straight for this measurement.
crotch length
From the center front of the waist, under the crotch and around to the center back of the waist. Make sure you stand up straight for this measurement.
hip circumference
Measure around the hips at the largest point. If circumference around thighs is larger than around the hips then use the larger measurement. Measurement should be parallel to the floor.
sideseam length
This is taken from the natural waist (where your piece of yarn sits) down to the floor along the side of your leg. Make sure you stand up straight for this measurement.
inseam
